Electrical substation connected to the high-voltage transmission network (HTB)
Located in the Somme department, the Hypercourt high-voltage substation transmits the electricity generated by two wind farms (45.6 MW) via a 63 kV/33 kV transformer with a capacity of 50 MVA (ONAF).
To comply with RTE’s specifications regarding the absorption or generation of reactive power, a compensation system (STATCOM) has been installed, providing an additional capacity of +/- 4 MVAR.
The entire high-voltage (HV) and high-voltage distribution (HVD) substation (HV and HVD equipment, transformers, interconnections with RTE, etc.) is monitored via the site’s digital control and monitoring system.
The Operations Department oversees all of this equipment to ensure the smooth running of the site.
Management
of a wind farm
Located in Guadeloupe, the St Rose wind farm has several distinctive features:
- 8 GAMESA wind turbines (16 MW)
- Two Li-ion battery storage systems (5.5 MWh)
- An energy management system (EMS) that automatically
- Collects weather forecast data and information on the operational status of wind turbines
- Draws up a production schedule (D+1 and D+2) and sends it to the distribution network operator
- Ensures that the production schedule is adhered to (charging/discharging batteries, securing wind turbines)
- Two generators to maintain power to the wind turbines whilst a cyclone is passing through
The Operations Department oversees all of this equipment (regular inspections, operational checks, etc.) to ensure the smooth running of the site.
Operation of a solar farm
Located on a former NATO military base in the Aube department, VALEMO operates the LASSICOURT solar farm.
This 17 MWp project comprises:
- 39,060 photovoltaic panels mounted on 1,867 solar trackers
- 4 central inverters
- 1 electrical substation to feed the generated electricity into the distribution network.
A monitoring system, developed by VALEMO’s technical engineering department, enables the Operations department to view the real-time operation of all this equipment.
Hydroelectric Power Station Operations
Since September 2020, VALEMO has been operating the 16 hydroelectric power stations that make up the Force Hydraulique Antillaise portfolio (10.4 MW)
A majority of these power stations are characterised by the fact that they are installed on water networks used for irrigating agricultural crops and producing drinking water.
These specific features present an additional challenge for the Driving Department, which oversees these sites.
Monitoring of alarms at offshore electrical substations
VALEMO, on behalf of Chantiers de l’Atlantique, has overseen the critical alarm systems at the electrical substations of the offshore wind farms at St Nazaire, Fécamp and Courseulles, and is now doing the same for the one at Yeu-Noirmoutier.
Commissioned in 2022 and 2023, these electrical substations enable the transmission of the electricity generated by the three connected wind farms.
During the commissioning phase of these substations, the VALEMO control centre provided continuous monitoring (24 hours a day, 7 days a week) of critical alarms (fire, etc.), thereby enabling the on-site teams to work safely.
Supervision of the delivery point at the SEM-REV EMR test site
VALEMO, on behalf of the OpenC Foundation, oversaw the delivery point at the SEM-REV EMR test site.
Since 2015, the SEM-REV test site has provided industry and academia with a high-voltage electrical energy transmission substation, enabling them to test their marine renewable energy (MRE) prototypes under real-world conditions.
Since then, three prototypes for offshore energy recovery have been tested.
The VALEMO control centre oversaw the supervision, remote management and smooth operation of the delivery substation at the SEM-REV test site, thereby providing the interface between the EMR electricity generation systems and the Enedis electricity grid
